About the Face Detector API

Face Detector API uses advanced computer vision algorithms to identify human faces in images. It returns the precise coordinates (x, y, width, height) and confidence scores for each detected face, making it ideal for applications like photo organization, face cropping, presence detection, and privacy masking.

What people use it for

Smart Avatar Cropping
Profile editors center user avatars around the detected face bounding box coordinates instead of cutting off heads with fixed center crops.
Privacy Photo Blurring
Blur sensitive facial areas automatically across community upload galleries before photos publish to public forums.
KYC Document Pre-Check
When applicants submit identity documents, check that exactly one face is present before triggering costly third-party identity checks.
Stock Library Categorization
Digital asset managers scan bulk photo collections to tag portraits based on face counts and filter out group shots automatically.

Questions.

Common questions about the Face Detector API.

Read the docs →
Can I submit images by URL as well as direct file upload?
Yes. You can upload an image file up to 10 MB directly or provide a publicly accessible image URL. Both options support JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP files.
Can the detector find multiple faces in a single photo?
Yes. Face Detector detects all human faces present in an image and provides individual bounding box coordinates and confidence scores for each one.
Can I adjust the sensitivity to filter out weak detections?
Yes. You can supply an optional confidence threshold between 0.1 and 1.0. The API will only return faces that meet or exceed that confidence level.
Do I get bounding box coordinates and face counts on the Free plan?
No. The Free plan only returns whether faces were found in the image. Bounding box coordinates, total face count, image dimensions, average confidence, and image coverage are premium fields available on every paid plan.
Is it cheap enough to scan every photo uploaded by users?
Yes. Each image scan costs 10 credits, allowing the Starter plan to cover 20,000 images each month. That works out to about $0.0015 per image, or $1.50 per 1,000 images. The Free plan gives you 20 image scans each month to test.
