Questions.

Common questions about the TLD Lookup API.

Read the docs →
Which types of top-level domains can I look up?
The API covers every top-level domain registered with IANA. That includes legacy extensions like .com and .org, country-code TLDs such as .uk and .de, newer generic extensions like .app and .dev, and infrastructure domains.
Where does the domain data come from and how fresh is it?
TLD Lookup pulls records directly from the authoritative IANA registry database, updated on a weekly basis. This keeps your validation aligned with current assignments and retirements across all global registries.
Is it cheap enough to verify the TLD for every domain submission?
Yes. Each lookup costs 2 credits, which works out to about $0.0003 per call or $0.30 per 1,000 requests on the Starter plan. You can test with 100 free lookups each month, while Starter covers up to 100,000 monthly lookups.
What happens if someone submits an unregistered extension or includes a leading dot?
The API accepts inputs with or without a leading dot and normalizes the extension automatically. If the queried string is not a recognized IANA-registered domain, the found field returns false in the response.
Can I use TLD data inside my commercial security or validation tool?
Yes, as long as you have an active paid plan. Commercial use is permitted across all paid tiers to support user-facing tools, forms, and workflows. You cannot resell or redistribute the raw data as a standalone product.
