Questions.

Common questions about the Unicode Character Lookup API.

Read the docs →
Does it return details for emoji as well as standard letters and symbols?
Yes. Unicode Character Lookup analyzes standard letters, numbers, punctuation, control characters, and emoji. For emoji, it provides the official name from the Unicode emoji database along with category and encoding values.
Can I look up a character by its hex codepoint instead of passing the symbol?
Yes. You can supply the character directly or provide its hexadecimal codepoint. The endpoint accepts hex values formatted with or without the standard U+ prefix, such as U+1F44B or 1F44B.
What would 20,000 character lookups a month cost me?
Each lookup costs 2 credits. The Free plan includes 100 lookups per month, so 20,000 lookups require the Starter plan, which covers up to 100,000 monthly lookups. That volume uses one-fifth of the plan credits, working out to about $0.30 per 1,000 lookups or $0.0003 per call.
Where does the character and emoji metadata come from?
Data is sourced directly from standard Unicode classifications and the official Unicode emoji database. This ensures standard codepoints, official character and emoji names, and canonical UTF-16 representations.
Can I display the returned Unicode data inside my own software?
Yes, provided you are on a paid plan. Commercial use is permitted on all paid plans, allowing you to use and display character names, encodings, and categories in your software. You may not resell or redistribute the raw dataset as-is.
