Questions.

Common questions about the Slugify API.

Read the docs →
What would 20,000 slug conversions a month cost me?
Converting 20,000 strings requires 40,000 credits, which uses a fifth of the Starter plan allowance. Starter provides 100,000 conversions per month, working out to about $0.30 per 1,000 calls. You can also test the service with 100 free conversions each month.
How does the tool handle accented characters and symbols?
The API normalizes incoming text by removing accents, stripping out special characters, and converting whitespace into clean separators. Diacritics and non-URL characters are removed so the generated string contains only clean, web-safe characters.
Can I choose a separator character other than a hyphen?
Yes. While a hyphen is the standard separator for web addresses, you can specify an underscore or another character using the separator parameter. If omitted, the API defaults to standard URL formatting.
Is lowercase conversion mandatory?
No. The API converts text to lowercase by default, but you can set the lowercase parameter to false. This allows you to retain original capitalization when generating identifiers for systems that are case-sensitive.
Can I use these slugs for file naming and database identifiers?
Yes. Slugify works well for any system that requires clean string formatting, including sanitized file names, database keys, and URL routes. The response returns both the original input text and the sanitized slug.
