About the Translator API

Translator works by using machine translation to convert text from one language to another. Models used are trained on large datasets to provide accurate translations.

What people use it for

Live Agent Chat Translation
When international customers message support in their native language, agents translate incoming tickets to draft localized replies without switching software.
Catalog Description Localization
Translate marketplace product titles and item descriptions into target consumer languages before launching digital storefronts in new overseas territories.
App Store Review Translation
Product teams convert foreign-language app store reviews into English using automatic language detection to monitor bug reports across regional markets.
Internal Employee Announcement Translation
To keep distributed staff updated, internal communicators render company-wide policy updates into multiple recipient languages for regional email distributions.

Questions.

Common questions about the Translator API.

Read the docs →
Which plan fits 5,000 translations a month?
The Starter plan covers 5,000 translations each month for $29.99, which works out to about $0.006 per call or $6.00 per 1,000 calls. If you are just testing or building a prototype, the Free plan gives you 5 calls per month.
Do I need to know the original language before submitting text?
No, specifying the source language is completely optional. If you leave the source parameter empty, the engine automatically detects the language and returns the detected language code alongside your translated text.
How are languages specified in requests?
Languages are passed as standard two-letter codes, such as en for English, es for Spanish, fr for French, or de for German. You provide the required target language code in the target parameter.
What information does each translation response return?
The response provides the translated text, the target language code, and the source language code. If you omitted the source language when sending the request, the response includes the code that was automatically identified.
What happens if I omit the source language parameter?
Translator handles omitted source parameters by automatically detecting the language of the submitted text. Your request will not fail or return an error due to a missing source language.
