About the Color Converter API

Color Converter works by analyzing the color provided and converting it to the specified format. It uses advanced algorithms to convert the color to the specified format and returns the color in the new format.

What people use it for

Design System Tokens
Frontend engineers convert designer-provided hex codes into RGB format to populate dynamic CSS variables across multi-theme web applications.
Print Production Prepress
Before sending digital graphics to commercial printers, prepress technicians convert RGB values into four-channel CMYK codes for accurate plate alignment.
Terminal Interface Styling
CLI developers map web color codes directly to ANSI 16-color numbers to colorize script output inside server terminal consoles.
Contrast Ratio Auditing
When evaluating accessibility compliance, automated testing suites convert color names into RGB numbers to calculate exact background and foreground luminance.

Questions.

Common questions about the Color Converter API.

Read the docs →
Which color formats can I convert between?
You can convert between hexadecimal, RGB, HSL, CMYK, and common English color names on every plan; ANSI 16-color codes require a paid plan. Dedicated endpoints accept inputs in hex, rgb, hsl, cmyk, or name format and return the converted values alongside channel counts.
Which plan fits 50,000 color conversions a month?
The Starter plan easily covers this volume. Each call uses 2 credits, so 50,000 conversions take 100,000 credits, exactly half of the 200,000 credits included on Starter. On that plan, usage works out to about $0.30 per 1,000 calls. The Free plan provides 100 calls per month.
Are CMYK, HSL, and color names available on the Free plan?
No. Fields like CMYK, HSL, ANSI 16 codes, color names, and hex outputs are marked premium depending on the endpoint used. Upgrading to any paid plan unlocks all converted format fields across every endpoint.
Do I need to include the hash mark when passing a hexadecimal color?
No, you must omit the hash prefix when passing a color to the hex endpoint. Pass the hex value directly, such as FF0000. The API response will return the converted hex string with the hash prefix included.
Will every color return a common English name?
No. The name field returns the common English name of the color only if an established match is available. Colors without a standard English name will not provide one.
