Unit Converter API

GET

Calculate measurement conversions without maintaining conversion tables.

Unit Converter converts values between 185 units across 23 measures, from length, mass and volume to speed, pressure, data size, energy and electrical units. Pass a numeric value with source and target unit codes to get the converted result and unit abbreviations. On paid plans, precision sets the decimal places and conversions=true adds the value in every unit of the same measure.

About the Unit Converter API

A unit conversion API that replaces hand-maintained conversion tables in your code. It covers 185 units across 23 measures, so the everyday conversions are one call each: liters to gallons, miles per hour to kilometers per hour, Celsius to Fahrenheit, megabytes to gigabytes, psi to bar, pounds to kilograms, and kilowatt-hours to joules. Beyond length, area, mass, volume and temperature it handles time, speed, pace, pressure, digital storage, parts per million, frequency, angles, illuminance, volume flow rate and electrical units from volts and amperes to watts and kilowatt-hours. Results are rounded to 2 decimal places. On paid plans, precision returns up to 10 decimal places, so very small results no longer round to zero, and conversions=true returns the same value in every unit of its measure in one call, such as a mass in micrograms through metric tons.

Questions.

Common questions about the Unit Converter API.

Read the docs →
How many unit conversions does the Free plan cover?
The Free plan covers 200 conversions each month, with each request using 1 credit. If your application requires higher throughput, the Starter plan provides 200,000 conversions per month, which works out to about $0.15 per 1,000 conversions. Credits reset every billing cycle and do not roll over.
Do I get unit system and measure details on the Free plan?
No, extended unit definition metadata is reserved for paid plans. Free requests return the converted numeric result, rounded to 2 decimal places, and standard unit abbreviations. Upgrading to Starter or above unlocks full metadata for both source and target units, including physical measures, measurement systems, and singular and plural names, plus the precision parameter and the conversions=true list of every unit in the same measure.
How many units does the converter support?
185 units across 23 measures, and the reference table lists every one with its code. Alongside length, area, mass, volume and temperature, the measures include time, speed, pace, pressure, digital storage, parts per million, frequency, angle, illuminance, volume flow rate, current, voltage, power, energy, reactive power, apparent power and reactive energy, plus counts in each and dozens. Units convert only within the same measure, and on paid plans conversions=true returns the value in every unit of that measure.
Which unit codes do common conversions use?
Liters to gallons is l to gal (US gallons), Celsius to Fahrenheit is C to F, miles per hour to kilometers per hour is m/h to km/h, and pounds per square inch to bar is psi to bar. Codes are case-sensitive, so MB is megabytes and Mb is megabits; MB to GB divides by 1,000. Temperature codes also work in lowercase.
Does the API provide both singular and plural unit labels?
Yes, on any paid plan. The response includes full singular and plural unit names alongside short abbreviation codes for both the source and destination units.
Can I inspect the original input alongside the converted result?
Yes. Every conversion returns the calculated result alongside the original input value and source unit identifier, making it straightforward to display or log before-and-after values in your interface.
