About the Income Statement API

Income Statement works by projecting the income section of normalized SEC EDGAR filings (10-Q and 10-K) for US public companies. On top of the filed line items it derives profitability margins and year-over-year revenue, net income and EPS growth, so you get a decision-ready P&L rather than raw XBRL. Data is refreshed continuously from official SEC filings.

What people use it for

R&D Spend Benchmarking
When tracking competitive software development, corporate strategists benchmark reported research and development expenses against operating profit across recent quarters.
Procurement Risk Assessment
Before signing multiyear enterprise contracts, procurement officers check supplier gross profit, operating income, and interest expense to verify fiscal stability.
Earnings Season Summaries
Financial news websites auto-generate quarterly earnings recaps by comparing basic earnings per share, gross profit, and operating income as SEC filings drop.
M&A Valuation Models
To assess potential corporate buyouts, dealmakers pull operating income, depreciation, and stock-based compensation to build standardized enterprise valuation multiples.

Questions.

Common questions about the Income Statement API.

Read the docs →
Does this cover private companies or international stock exchanges?
No, it only covers US public companies that file quarterly and annual reports with the SEC. You can query any active ticker on major US exchanges using standard symbols like AAPL or MSFT. Unlisted private firms and foreign exchanges without SEC filings are not supported.
Where do the financial figures come from and how often are they updated?
Data comes directly from official SEC EDGAR filings, specifically 10-Q quarterly reports and 10-K annual reports. The service normalizes raw XBRL line items into standardized accounting metrics and refreshes continuously as companies submit new filings.
Are revenue, net income and profit margins included on the Free plan?
No, core revenue and bottom-line metrics require a paid plan. Essential fields including total revenue, net income, diluted EPS, profit margins, and year-over-year growth calculations are premium fields unlocked on Starter and above. Filtering by specific fiscal years and quarters also requires a paid plan.
How far does the Starter plan go for income statement lookups?
The Starter plan covers 33,333 company lookups each month, which works out to $0.90 per 1,000 calls (about $0.0009 per call). Each request consumes 6 credits. If you want to test your integration first, the Free plan provides 33 calls each month.
Can I use these income statements in a commercial fintech product?
Yes, you can use and display the financial metrics inside your own software, dashboard, or client-facing application on any paid plan. Commercial use is not permitted on the Free plan, and you may not resell or redistribute the raw financial data as a standalone feed.
What reporting period is returned if I do not pass a year or quarter?
If you omit the year and quarter parameters, the response defaults to the latest available SEC filing on record for that company. Fetching a specific historical fiscal year or quarter requires a paid plan, as those filtering parameters are premium features.
