About the Insider Trading API

Insider Trading works by parsing SEC Form 4 ownership filings for US public companies into clean, normalized transactions and layering on derived intelligence the raw filings do not carry - open-market buy versus sell totals, net insider activity, distinct insiders, and a bullish/bearish sentiment read. Compensation noise like option grants and tax withholding is separated from real open-market signals. Data is refreshed continuously from official SEC filings.

What people use it for

Executive Stock Alerts
Alert wealth managers when corporate officers or directors execute open-market share purchases or sales above defined dollar thresholds.
Portfolio Watchlist Tracking
When public companies report Form 4 filings, notify retail subscribers which corporate officers bought shares and their post-transaction share counts.
Quant Factor Screening
To identify executive sentiment shifts, feed algorithmic models with open-market transaction amounts and transaction dates across equity portfolios.
Director Ownership Tracking
Compliance teams track equity holdings and monitor reporting thresholds for corporate directors and ten-percent owners across SEC filings.

Questions.

Common questions about the Insider Trading API.

Read the docs →
Does this cover private companies or foreign stock exchanges?
No, coverage is strictly limited to US public companies that submit filings to the SEC. The API requires a valid US ticker symbol, such as AAPL or MSFT, and returns data exclusively for companies with active Form 4 reports.
Where does the transaction data come from and how fresh is it?
Data is sourced directly from official SEC Form 4 ownership filings. Records are parsed and normalized continuously as new filings are submitted to the SEC, keeping insider transactions and calculated sentiment summaries current.
Are the sentiment summary and cluster-buy indicators available on the Free plan?
No, derived sentiment metrics and cluster-buy flags require a paid plan. Free plan users receive individual transaction records, while aggregated fields like net transaction value, buy-to-sell ratios, sentiment reads, and request filters require Starter or higher.
What would 10,000 ticker lookups a month cost me?
That volume uses 60,000 credits, easily fitting within the Starter plan allowance of 200,000 credits. Each call costs 6 credits, meaning Starter handles up to 33,333 lookups each month, which works out to about $0.90 per 1,000 calls. The Free plan includes 33 calls per month.
Can I display this insider trading data inside a commercial investment app?
Yes, commercial use is fully supported on any paid plan. You are welcome to display insider transactions and sentiment summaries inside your own investment tools or dashboards, provided you do not resell or redistribute the raw data as a standalone feed.
