About the Jobs Report API

Jobs Report sources data directly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the official source for US employment statistics. Data includes the household survey (unemployment rate) and establishment survey (nonfarm payrolls) going back to 1948.

Where is this employment data sourced from?

All figures come directly from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the official United States agency for labor market data. The dataset includes both the household survey for unemployment metrics and the establishment survey for nonfarm payroll figures, updated monthly.

How far back does the historical jobs data reach?

The data reaches back to 1948. Paid plans can pull historical records for any specific month by passing a date in YYYY-MM format; every plan can omit the parameter to fetch the most recent release.

Can I query historical dates or view sector breakdowns on the Free plan?

No, accessing historical reports with the date parameter requires a paid plan. The Free plan returns the current month's headline figures, such as the national unemployment rate and labor force participation. Detailed sector-level breakdowns, nonfarm payroll totals, and historical lookups unlock on Starter and higher plans.

How far does the Starter plan go for monthly employment queries?

Starter covers 100,000 calls each month, with each request costing 2 credits. That volume works out to about $0.0003 per query or $0.30 per 1,000 requests. If you only need occasional checks, the Free plan provides 100 calls per month at no charge.

Which industry sectors are tracked in the monthly breakdown?

On paid plans, the breakdown covers major categories including manufacturing, construction, mining, information, financial activities, government, and leisure and hospitality. Each sector report includes employment totals in thousands alongside an indicator for the top-employing sector.

Can I feature this employment data in a commercial dashboard or research tool?

Yes, commercial usage is allowed on any paid subscription. You can display metrics and historical trends within your own internal tools, client platforms, or analytical products, but you cannot resell the raw data feed directly.

Request parameters — GET /v1/jobsreport

Sent in the query string. Premium parameters are accepted on every plan but only take effect on plans that include them. Anything not listed here is dropped rather than passed through.

Authentication

Send your key in the x-api-key header. That is the only auth step — no token exchange, and no per-endpoint scope to configure.

Header	When	Value
`x-api-key`Required	Every request	Your API key. Header names are case-insensitive, so `X-API-Key` is the same header.
`Authorization`Alternate	Instead of the above	`Bearer <key>` — for clients that only expose bearer auth. Resolves to the same account and the same billing.

401 is the only auth verdict

A 401 means the key is missing, invalid or expired. A 403 means the key is valid but not permitted here — blocked by a key restriction or an IP allow-list. Running out of credits is a 429.

Response — GET /v1/jobsreport

Every APIVerve endpoint returns the same three top-level keys, so one response handler covers your whole integration: status, error and data. Only data changes shape.

Paths are relative to data. Premium fields are absent rather than zeroed on plans that do not include them, so check for presence instead of comparing to 0.

Response headers

Every response carries your balance, so your own code always knows where it stands without polling anything. All four are exposed to browsers through CORS.

Errors

Read the HTTP status first, then error for the specific reason. The body names the parameter that has to change.

`401`	Key missing or invalid	Check the header name and the key value.
`403`	Key valid, but not permitted here	A key restriction or an IP allow-list — never a bad key.
`429`	Rate limited, or out of credits	Read `error` to tell them apart, then back off or top up.

What a call costs — 2 credits per call

Credits are shared across every APIVerve API — one balance, one key, one bill. Failed requests never count against it, so a rejected input costs nothing.
